The plan takes life

The past few weeks Room 8 have been learning about Bastion Point... the factual side. Once we had that foundation we began the fictional side. How did Joe Hawke feel as a child when he saw his house being burnt down? Why was the removal of homes necessary for the arrival of the Queen? Or was it really a plan to sell the land for more money? With this in mind Room 8 decided to recreate the Orakei reserve area so the Crown would have no reason to destroy it. What does the community, who is it to serve? The area had to have a marae and this needed to be the centre point. Homes were designed to scale that were insulated, warm and dry. A park runs through the centre of the reserve that all the homes have access to.  The park has both child and adult areas to play, exercise and socialise. There are community gardens, orchards, a kura and a large medical centre with an ambulance bay.

Surely now if we present this to the Crown they will have no reason to burn down the homes, destroying the lives of many families!
